Set vaccination requirements for your clients' pets

Last updated November 2026 · v1.0

Make a list of the vaccinations every pet should have on file, like Rabies or Bordetella. Chester asks your clients to upload them, shows you which pets are missing one, and warns you when you book a pet that is.

The short version
  1. Add each vaccination you require to your list.
  2. Your clients are asked to upload the record for each pet.
  3. Check who's missing or expired on Health Records.

On your phone

  1. Tap the More tab, then Settings.
  2. Under Services, tap Required Documents to open your list.
  3. Tap + Add Custom Document, enter the Document Name (for example Rabies), and tap Add Document.
    • New items start as required. Use the switch on a row to make it optional.
  4. To check your pets, go back to More and tap Health Records.

On the web

  1. In the left sidebar, click Health Records.
  2. Under Vaccination requirements, in Add new, enter the Vaccination name.
  3. Leave the required box ticked, or untick it to just track it, and click Add Requirement.
    • Click Required or Optional on a row to switch it.
  4. To see only pets missing or expired on a required record, click Issues on the same page.
    • It shows a count, like Issues 3.

What your client gets

  • A requires the following list on their home screen, with an "Upload" line for each required record.
  • On each pet's vaccinations, the required ones are marked, with a button to upload a photo or PDF.
  • A push about 30 days before a vaccination is due, if they get booking reminders. This covers any vaccination with a due date, not only required ones.

Good to know

  • Nothing is blocked. When you book a pet that's missing a required record, Chester warns you, for example "Rocky has no Rabies on file", and you can still book.
  • The name has to match. A record counts when its vaccination name matches the requirement, so use the same name your clients' vets use.
  • Expiry comes from each record's due date. An expired record counts as missing. "Valid (days)" is shown on the list, but Chester doesn't work out expiry from it.
  • One list for your whole business. It isn't set per service.
  • Chester skips vaccines that don't fit the pet. A dog-only vaccine like DHPP isn't asked of cats, and a cat-only one like FVRCP isn't asked of dogs.
  • Requirements are for vaccination records. For signed waivers and forms, use agreements. See Send agreements and get documents signed.
  • Who can change the list. Anyone with Edit business settings. Owners have it to start.
